There are few things more mind-melting than a truly spectacular rooftop bar. And we’re not just talking the ones on the tallest buildings or with the fanciest cocktails. The best rooftop bars are all about the bev-view combo: it’s got to be its own experience, to even offer a totally new way of viewing somewhere.

New rooftop bars pop up all the time, but which are, at the mo, the best? Well, tour operator Big 7 Travel has used social media results and editorial judgement to come up with a ranking of the 50 best rooftop bars in Europe right now.

Top of the pile, according to them, is… Salling Rooftop in Aarhus, Denmark! Part-bar, part-conservatory, Salling is 25 metres above street level on top of a department store and boasts glass floors, exhibition spaces and live DJ sets. It seems a worthy first choice.

Next up is The Roof at the Reykjavik Edition hotel in Iceland, which has fabulous views out over the ocean, mountains and even (if you’re lucky) the Northern Lights, while third is Kranen Bar on top of Oslo’s new Munch Museum.

Here are the ten best rooftop bars in Europe, according to Big 7 Travel.

  1. Salling Rooftop (Aarhus, Denmark)
  2. The Roof at Reykjavik Edition (Reykjavik, Iceland)
  3. Kranen Bar (Oslo, Norway)
  4. Oroya (Madrid, Spain)
  5. The Culpeper (London, UK)
  6. Sky Bar (Lisbon, Portugal)
  7. Patchwork at Sa Punta (Ibiza, Spain)
  8. Skyline Bar 20up (Hamburg, Germany)
  9. Mama Shelter (Bordeaux, France)
  10. Terrace Bar (Madeira
